Department of Persian was established in 2019 at Government Degree College Kargil. A taste of literary activities was developed in Dept. of Persian from its initial stage. Persian Department of Government Degree College, Kargil is to give the learners a sound understanding of Persian literature. The role of Persian language in giving rise to the Persianate culture across the West Asia and the Indo_Persian culture in the subcontinent in particular can’t be overemphasized. Persian remains the most important language, since it enjoyed the status of lingua franca in Indian Subcontinent during the Pre-Mughal and Mughal era. Therefore a student of history or cultural anthropology can have a direct access to the first hand sources, provided he or she has an adequate training in Persian language. Persian Department of GDC, Kargil beside teaching Persian grammar and classical texts, focuses primarily on Modern and Functional Persian.
